Hello! I am Joanna

So many of us carry deeply buried pains and burdens within our hearts, unexpressed and unacknowledged. While these burdens might be scary to face alone, they can be confronted in the company and support of another. This is what I strive to offer my clients – a safe space to unburden the things that weigh on them and in doing so, transform these burdens into newfound strength and resilience.

Albert Camus beautifully stated, “In the depth of winter, I found there lies within me, an invincible summer.” This quote encapsulates my therapeutic approach: helping you discover and nurture the invincible summer within, even in the darkest times.

I invite you to take the first step towards healing and resilience.

Biography

Ms. Joanna Hong is a warm and empathic psychotherapist dedicated to creating a safe and welcoming space for her clients. With her gentle and supportive presence, clients feel comfortable opening up and sharing their thoughts and feelings. Joanna ensures that her clients never feel judged, allowing them to be their authentic selves during their sessions.

Joanna believes in the power of psychoeducation and awareness as key components of the therapeutic process. She integrates these elements into her practice to help clients gain a deeper understanding of their experiences and develop effective coping strategies. By fostering this awareness, Joanna empowers her clients to take control of their mental well-being.

One of Joanna’s core philosophies is the integration of the head and the heart. She believes that true healing and growth come from aligning intellectual understanding with emotional insight. This balanced approach helps clients navigate their challenges with both clarity and compassion.

Personal Experience

Joanna began her professional journey in the government, where she helped local companies build capabilities and expand into overseas markets. She then transitioned into sales and marketing roles, successfully rallying her teams to achieve new heights. Although these experiences may seem unrelated to counselling, the common thread that most engaged her was the opportunity to meet and converse with different people. Joanna found that people naturally opened up to her, sharing their struggles and challenges.

A disruption at work led Joanna to question her long-term happiness in her current field. Realizing that she wouldn’t be fulfilled continuing on this path, she decided to explore a new career in counselling. This decision was influenced by her personal experience with therapy, where she addressed grief, relationship issues, and childhood trauma. The transformative impact of therapy left her feeling lighter and unburdened, and she was inspired to offer the same healing space to others.

Initially, Joanna approached her career change with curiosity, but as she gained more experience working with clients, she discovered a deep sense of enjoyment and meaning in her new role. Clients have expressed immense benefits from their sessions with her, citing increased self-awareness and a more positive self-concept. Motivated by these positive outcomes, Joanna has committed to pursuing her career in counselling following her studies.
